  19. This probably `by analogy' with the slant value of cmsl; of course,
  20. any such generation of a slanted font is a compromise -- one really
  21. ought to be using a font (of the appropriate family) _designed_ to be
  22. slanted.  If John's ad hoc values for slant look OK with the fonts
  23. he's using, I'ld say he should stick with them.

  29. The change occurred not to cope with 2e (though 2e's PSNFSS does use
  30. the new scheme), but rather to cope with the concept of several
  31. different font encodings.  Just now, we need representations for each
  32. font for OT1 (Knuth), T1 (Cork) and <raw> (Adobe) encodings; who's to
  33. know what the future will bring?

  45. (tex-archive/fonts/metrics/<foundry>) to help you out.
